Flexible ticketing and rigorous hygiene standards are central to a new policy introduced by Zambia’s Proflight Zambia to restore passenger confidence in the wake of the COVID-19 virus outbreak.

Travellers airline staff, and travel agents have all been considered under the commercial policy as the airline acts to provide peace of mind and play its part to keep the  economy moving and shore up the nation’s tourism sector.

“We have taken extra measures since the beginning of the COVID -19 epidemic in order to minimise both its effects and spreading. Our foremost priority is the safety and well-being of our employees and passengers, we are monitoring the latest developments regarding the virus and working closely with national and international health and aviation authorities,” said Proflight Zambia Corporation Director, Chitalu Kabalika.

Mr Kabalika further said the airline is planning adjustments to flight schedules, which could include the cancellation or suspension of some routes and reduced frequency on other routes for the coming months.

“The safety, security and good health of our passengers and employees is our highest priority. Although we maintain the very highest standards of hygiene across all parts of the business, we recognise that some passengers may wish to alter their existing travel plans. We hope this new policy, alongside our robust hygiene practices and safety record, will allow our passengers to travel with confidence,” added Mr Kabalika

“We are currently operating all routes and the majority of our flights.  There have been some flight cancellations due to reduced demand for travel but we continue to operate to all our schedule destinations including Joburg and Durban. Private charters are still available to any licenced strip in Zambia and we can operate these from private airstrips as well as from main international airports.  For updated schedule information please refer to our website or your travel agency .”

As part of the COVID -19 policy, customers can currently cancel and rebook any ticket to a later date with no change fees charged.  We have extended our ticket validity to 18-months to allow more flexibility for our customers’

“No change or re-route fees will be charged on bookings in any fare class for travel dates between March 17 and May 31, 2020,” said Proflight Zambia Sales and Marketing Manager Barbara Namwila.

“If future travel date is not yet known, we will accept cancellation of seat for flights between March 17 and May 31 and a note will be entered into the booking system to waive change/reroute fees once the future travel date is decided on.”

In this extremely difficult time, Proflight Zambia has welcomed the pronouncements made by government to contain the spread of the virus outbreak and commend the Department of Immigration, the Ministry of Health, Zambia Airports Company, the Civil Aviation Authority and all other stakeholders and government bodies for their efforts in this very challenging time.
