PROFLIGHT SUPPORTS ZASTI ENGINEER TRAINING

Proflight Zambia is supporting Zambia’s aircraft industry engineer training by donating aircraft parts to the Zambia Air Services Training Institute (ZASTI) for students to use as training aids.

Celebrating its 27th year of operations under Zambian skies, Proflight, Zambia’s leading airline, showed its appreciation to Zambia’s pioneering aviation school, for the significant contribution of the institution in training aviation industry professionals.

Students studying engineering at ZASTI will be able to use the parts to work on, helping them repair an aircraft to global standards.

During the handover of the aircraft parts at Proflight’s Kenneth Kaunda International Airport hangar, Proflight’s Quality Control Manager Alick Mwanza, said: “Proflight aims to offer world-class aviation services to Zambia through its values of upholding safety, reliability, efficiency and friendly service. Our daily operations demonstrate the best quality safety standards. We believe the high-quality training provided by institutions such as ZASTI is central in attaining this.

“Our contribution to the training institute will help propel the quality of training the aviation school already provides even further.”

For the aviation industry to grow to greater heights, it needs to have a steady and reliable supply of experts to keep systems running and meet the Civil Aviation Authority’s requirements.

As a Zambian airline, nearly 90% of Proflight’s engineering staff, including its Hanger Manager, are ex-ZASTI students.

ZASTI Principal Billieard Shingalili, said: “We appreciate the effort Proflight has made in helping the aviation school. On behalf of government and ZASTI we are very thankful. Proflight has come to our aid in many ways. Our long partnership has been mutually beneficial,” he said.

Mr Shingalili added: “We encourage more aviation organisations to support the aviation school as Proflight does.”

Civil Aviation Authority Inspector Patrick Phiri added: “This is a good move by the airline, because as you know the aviation industry requires a flow of well-trained and qualified personnel. The support Proflight has given to ZASTI is extremely valuable. The students require training aids, books, components and parts to help them gain practical experience and a deeper understanding.”

Proflight’s Capt. Gerald Tembo and Capt. Josias Walubita are among the best examples of professionals employed by the airline who have passed through ZASTI.
