Zambia’s leading domestic airline Proflight Zambia hosted its inaugural annual Proflight Intensity Awards recently, recognising staff who have shown exceptional initiative in carrying out their duties.
Some 15 of the airline’s top staff from across various departments countrywide were nominated by team leaders and management for the internal awards
Sasha Tembo, Manager of Technical Purchasing and Stores in the Maintenance Department scooped the overall prize, becoming Proflight’s first Intensity Award winner.
“One of the biggest challenges of any organisation is how to get its employees to approach their work and duties with a greater sense of ownership. That’s the kind of intensity we are looking for; people that to go that extra mile as if it is their own business,” explained Proflight sales and marketing manager Barbara Namwila.
In accepting his award, Mr Tembo said: “I didn’t expect this or to be the overall winner. It means a lot to me because my job is more on cost saving. I thought I wasn’t doing much but the management did recognise my effort, so now I know that my savings strategies are working and they are helping the company.”
Reservations Control Manager Yvonne Vogel, and Contact Centre Supervisor Chanda Mwenda emerged as second and third runners-up.
“We have a very strong team of people at Proflight and our people are our greatest asset. The Intensity Award is about honouring the members of staff who have been nominated and awarded without taking away from the many contributions by the entire ‘Proflight family’ who are equally hardworking,” added Ms Namwila.
Management further urged staff to carry on with the same spirit, to guard against complacency and take up responsibilities with increased intensity in order to ensure excellence continued to permeate throughout the airline’s operations.
“Congratulations to all the nominees, as well as those who walked away with the various recognitions. The awards are to encourage and appreciate our staff for their hard work and contribution. We understand that apart from Proflight they have various other family duties and responsibilities but it is a question of everybody putting in their best; only then can we achieve the best and meet our targets,” said Ms Namwila.
