Proflight Zambia has welcomed a 114-seat Boeing 737-500 aircraft to its fleet to meet increased demand in routes to Ndola and Livingstone.

The plane, which wowed passengers on its maiden flights from Lusaka to Livingstone and Ndola this week, will also operate on the airline’s Durban routes when required to meet additional passenger demand.

Proflight is witnessing a noticeable growth in the number of passengers during the third quarter of the year. “We feel compelled to add a bigger aircraft to our fleet to meet the high demand on our domestic routes, specifically Lusaka-Ndola,” said Proflight Director of Government and Industry Affairs Capt. Philip Lemba.

“We are very excited about this development and would like to thank the Zambia Civil Aviation Authority for all their assistance with performing the necessary inspections and processing of the application to make this possible; we are confident the 737-500 aircraft will be a benefit to the passengers on both our domestic and international routes,” he added.

According to a recent Zambia Airports Corporation report, passenger numbers increased by 12.4 percent in 2018 compared to the same period last year, due to reduced fares and the introduction of more domestic flights by Zambia’s leading domestic airline Proflight Zambia.

The latest aircraft will enable Proflight to meet demand in the short-term while it awaits delivery of the 50-seat Dash 8 aircraft that the airline has bought from Canada, which is the headquarters of the aircraft manufacturer, Bombardier Aerospace.
