PROFLIGHT OPENS UP THE COPPERBELT WITH NEW DIRECT FLIGHTS

Proflight Zambia has opened up the Copperbelt with the launch this week of two new routes direct from Ndola for travellers to Solwezi and Kasama.

The routes were officially launched in Ndola today (January 19) by Minister of Transport and Communications Hon. Brian Mushimba at a breakfast briefing also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Arts, Ministry of Works and Supply, Zambia Airports Corporation, Civil Aviation Authority and Copperbelt Administration.

“I commend Proflight for this launch of the new routes as they are following and studying the markets. We have seen that opening up flights to these destinations from Ndola will open up a corridor for more investment and is answering to the call of the local people,” said Mr Mushimba. “The quest of government opening up the country is actually being done through such stakeholders as Proflight.”

Proflight has added a direct flight three times a week between Ndola and Solwezi, providing convenient travel between the Copperbelt business hub and the North-Western Province mining centre.

The new scheduled service from Ndola to Solwezi will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and will take just 1 hour, compared with the lengthy and uncomfortable road trip between the two urban centres, and a longer flight via Lusaka.

In the same week the Zambia’s leading scheduled airline has also launched a new direct flight between Ndola and Kasama that avoids travellers having to stay overnight in Lusaka when flying between the two locations.

Instead, the airline has introduced a four-times-a-week circuit on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, alternating between Lusaka-Ndola-Kasama-Lusaka and Lusaka- Kasama- Ndola- Lusaka.

The move is set to attract further investment in mining, tourism, agriculture and aquaculture in North-Western and Northern provinces, said the airline’s director of government and industry affairs, Captain Philip Lemba.

The new routes also create a second ‘hub’ for passengers in Ndola.

“The flight schedule will reduce the hassle of people having to fly via Lusaka, or make a lengthy and uncomfortable road trip, saving time and money, said capt. Lemba. “Our new routes will bring efficiency, effectiveness and smart travel for time-conscious business travellers and tourists between the three towns,” he added.

The Ndola-Solwezi flight will depart Ndola at 08:30hrs on Tuesdays and Fridays, arriving Solwezi at 09:30hrs. On Thursdays, the flight will depart Ndola at 13:35hrs, arriving Solwezi at 14:35. The return flight departs Solwezi at 09:55hrs on Tuesdays and Fridays, arriving Ndola at 10:55hrs. On Thursdays, the flight will depart Solwezi at 15:00hrs arriving Ndola at 16:00.

The direct flight will depart Ndola at 12:45 hours on Tuesdays and Fridays, arriving in Kasama at 14:25 hours. The flight will depart Kasama on Mondays and Thursdays at 10:35 hours, arriving in Ndola at 12:15 hours.
