PROFLIGHT COMMENDS TRAVEL AGENTS

The contribution of Zambia’s travel agents to the aviation and tourism sectors have been recognised by Zambia’s favourite airline, Proflight Zambia, which held its annual travel agents’ award ceremony at the end of last year.

Voyagers minted first position in the Highest Flown Revenue Award category while Juls Travel and Discover Travels won second and third place respectively. Ukwenda as the top new agency, with Traverze Travel and Tours second, and Carla Travel and Tours third.

Increase certificates were awarded to: Addit Travel, African Destinations, ARC Save Travel, Aviator Travel, Best Eastern Travel, Destination Zambia, Dianelink Travel, Gemistar, Good Travel, Mukwa Travel, Mushambo African Safaris, Patriot Travel, Salhami Enterprises Travel, Satguru Travel, Sterling Travel, Struts Travel, Sunbird Travel, Tikuya Travel And Tours, Topflight Travel, Traveltech, Xiangxiang Travel, Acash Travel And Car Hire, IHFS Travel and Orient Travel and Tours.

And to the satisfaction of the travel agents, Proflight commercial director Keira Langford-Johnson announced that Proflight would accelerate its expansion drive in 2018, attributing part of Proflight’s success in Zambia’s aviation sector to the support of travel agents.

“By the close of 2017, we would have used at least 4.5 million litres of fuel, flown over 8,000 sectors and surpassed 130,000 passengers. All these achievements cannot be reached without the role you, our travel agents, play and as an airline we say thank you,” she told the agents.

In terms of domestic routes, Proflight Zambia maintained its support for the tourism sector by announcing the Lusaka-Lufupa and the Livingstone-Lower Zambezi routes scheduled for 2018.

Mrs Langford-Johnso also hinted that 2018 will witness an increase in capacity, which will contribute to lower fares.

“As you may have observed, there has been a significant gradual decrease of airfares and this will continue in our 2018 expansion drive,” she said.

At the sidelines of the awards presentation, Voyagers director Molly Care said airlines depended on travel agents and travel consultants to achieve passenger targets and that Proflight has been a reliable partner over the years.

“Proflight are reliable, they stick to their schedules and they cover all tourist destinations. I hope that Proflight will increase its destinations further,” she said.
