Proflight Zambia is helping to boost tourism with its scheduled flights to Kafue National Park.
The airline flies direct to Lufupa airstrip in the park on Mondays and Fridays, leaving Lusaka at 12:40hrs and returning at 14:15hrs. From July 15 until August 18 it will add additional regular flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays, which are available on request until then.
Proflight director of Government and Industry affairs Philip Lemba said: “The Kafue National Park is a tourism gem; a place where serious safari lovers can have an authentic wildlife experience. This addition to our schedule reaffirms Proflight Zambia’s role in promoting and facilitating Zambian tourism.”
Proflight has been adding additional scheduled flights on tourism destinations to boost and supplement tourist travel during the peak season.
The relaunch of the service to Lufupa airstrip coincides with the 2018 safari season on request. The flights along the route are to be operated by the Cessna Caravan aircraft with a capacity of between 10-12 passengers.
Proflight also flies to Kalabo in Western Province on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
This will encourage tourism to the country’s largest national park, improving local business for lodges, camps and other small enterprises in the vicinity of the park.
Captain Lemba further highlighted how the airline is providing fast and convenient travel as an alternative to road travel, which tends to be stressful and time consuming over longer distances.
“Today’s passengers are more conscious of the time spent in transit, in addition to other factors, and this increasingly influences their decision on whether to make a trip or not. We hope to build greater confidence in the ease of accessing tourism hotspots across the country via our network and encourage more local as well as incoming international travellers to visit them,” he said.
During the first quarter of 2018 Zambia saw an increase in tourism travel through domestic and international connections. According to Zambian Airports Corporation statistics, 413,961 general passenger movements were recorded, compared to 369,707 during the same quarter of last year.
The flights to Kafue National Park will operate four times weekly in the peak safari months of June to October and twice weekly in the shoulder season months of April, May and November.
Kafue National Park has a diverse terrain with an enormous range of wildlife. The Busanga Plains in the north of the park is a prime area for big game, where hosts of animals come to forage and hunt. It is also recognised as the best place in Zambia from which to encounter the elusive cheetah.
Visitors to Lufupa get an entirely different experience in its beautiful remoteness, and rarely leave without having seen a leopard.
The airline, from its base in Lusaka offers flights to Livingstone, Ndola, Kasama, Mfuwe, Solwezi, Kalabo and Lower Zambezi, with international flights to Lilongwe in Malawi and Durban South Africa.
