South Africa’s Blue Bulls rugby giants will be among the first passengers on Proflight’s new Johannesburg-Ndola routes set to kick-off next month (September).

The sporting legends will be on board as they travel to Zambia to take part in this year’s Zambia Sevens International Rugby Tournament from September 6-7, just a few days after Proflight starts its new route on September 2.

The service is ideal for the Blue Bulls team, which is based in Pretoria and will be connecting through from Ndola to Lusaka for the event.

Blue Bulls head coach Ludwiche van Deventer said: “We’re really excited to be taking part in the Zambia International tournament this year, and equally excited to be travelling with Proflight direct from Johannesburg to Ndola. It’s going to be an awesome experience all-round.”

This is the second year that Proflight has supported the Rugby 7s. Last year the airline sponsored the Sharks team from South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal with direct flights between Lusaka and Durban.

Zambia rugby union President Brigadier General Clement Sinkamba during this year’s Zambia national team kit reveal said: “The sponsorship from the airline goes a long way to ensure our Rugby Sevens tournament has content and is competitive especially with renowned teams from South Africa that fly to the Sevens tournament.”

“We want Proflight to be the Zambia Sevens flagship, it’s our wish that the airline can extend its wings to be the Zambia Sevens flag carrier,” he added.

The Blue Bulls rugby team is established under the South African rugby union and has won 23 annual Currie Cup tournaments.

And Proflight Zambia Sales and Marketing Manager Barbara Namwila said: “We are so excited to welcome the South African ruggers aboard our new service and to host them again this year at the Zambia Sevens international tournament.”

“The Blue Bulls will fly from Johannesburg to Ndola and connect to Lusaka where the 7s tournament will be held.”

The Zambia Sevens International Rugby Tournament, is an incredible rugby championship which began in 2017, arranged and organised by R&G events with Zambia rugby union.

“A nation should have good sports men and women to contribute to the economy. We are so happy to be part of the Rugby Sevens again this year and to contribute to its growth,” Ms Namwila added.

The rugby tournament will be held in Lusaka at the R&G Arena rugby pitch on September 6 and 7.

The route will link the Copperbelt mining and industry hub with South Africa’s main business centre with three-times-a-week service on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Return fares will start from K4,800, subject to exchange rate fluctuations.
