Proflight Zambia has treated international relations student and model Tracy Mwanza to an adventure of sun and shimmering sands of Africa’s coastal gem after she won the airline’s Durban Selfie Competition which ran on the airline’s Facebook page earlier this year.
Tracy kicked off her second trip to the city of golden beaches from Kenneth Kaunda Airport in Lusaka with a lovely treat from the airline’s cabin crew.
“I enjoyed the trip; it was nice and splendid with wonderful service from the airline’s cabin crew,” said Tracy, who got to sightsee and do a lot more fun things in the company of her best friend.
“Durban is about the fun and the adventure! I thank Proflight for the two free return tickets. My second visit to Durban was even more exciting, as this time around I travelled with my close friend,” related Tracy.
Durban is a holiday maker’s dream, with its 600km stretch of beaches that accommodate various spots of relaxation with five-star lodgings, eating places and entertainment all year round.
“There are lots of things to do within town. Among the things that amused me was the rickshaw ride! If you dare to visit Durban, don’t miss this nice experience,” said the excited traveller.
Durban is the only place in South Africa you’ll find rickshaws, so don’t pass up the opportunity for a ride as it is a great way to see the famous Golden Mile.
“Also, the Beachfront Fun World Amusement Park is a wonderland of fun and fantasy for both adults and kids,” said Tracy.
Apart from Suncoast, Tracey and her companion got to visit the Virginia Beach and Splash Waterworld in Amanzimtoti. A few days of cloud cover did not deter the happy duo either as they opted to do some shopping in the malls of Durban, many of which are open 24 hours a day, as well as exploring more of the city.
All manner of adventure awaits visitors to the world-famous tourist destination, with endless activities and events throughout the year including diving with sharks, timeout at the beach or surfing in the ocean, shopping, attending internationally acclaimed musical concerts, watching movies, theatre or art, checking out new trends in fashion, business and fun for the all ages. Travellers can also glimpse historical sites and buildings around the city.
“Though I couldn’t go diving with the sharks, I sure had a great time as you can tell from the photos I took and mini videos I shot of myself on my phone to remind me of the experience,” Tracy said.
One of the best ways to get a view of Durban according to Tracey is from an eagle’s eye: “While in the sky and entering Durban, I made sure I had a sit close to the window so I could have a glance of this beautiful city. It was just a lovely view to see the landscape, architecture, and the coastal beaches from up there.”
With a vibrant tone in her voice she said: “Upon landing and walking out of the plane I could feel the wonderful fresh air blow across my face, I couldn’t wait to rush to the beach ‘aaahh… I just love Durban’.”
As an international relations student and model, Tracy is a keen explorer of different cultures: “Being in a new environment and interacting with different kinds of people is just something I really love. As you know Durban is a place of all races and cultures and travelling back really did it for me.”
Born and raised in the city of Ndola on Zambia’s Copperbelt Tracey has become quiet the avid traveller and loves play tennis, have long walks and model a lot: “It’s just in my genes,” she jokes.
“Travelling has become my norm, most especially when I get to fly as it saves me more time. I really love to visit Durban during the holidays, especially December. I love it because that’s when a lot of people from South Africa and around the world turn up there for the year-end holidays.”
A thrilled Tracey flew back home after spending nearly a month in Africa’s coastal gem: “I urge everyone visiting Durban to be ready for anything as the place has got a lot of exciting places that you can go to and activities you can do.”
The Durban Selfie Competition saw more than 50 participants post selfies of their trip to Durban with the hashtag #ProflightDurban and accumulated a total of 5,193 likes on all the postings on the airlines Facebook page.
Proflight flies to Durban three times a week using its 50-seater CRJ-100 aircraft. The flight takes just two hours and 30 minutes and schedules are arranged so that passengers can travel on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
Flight P0022 leaves Lusaka at 08:15hrs on Sundays arriving in Durban at 10:45hrs. The returning P0023 flight leaves Durban at 11:25hrs and arriving in Lusaka at 13:55hrs On Tuesdays and Thursdays P0024 leaves Lusaka at 09:50hrs and arrives in Durban at 12:20hrs, return as P0025 at 13:00hrs and arriving in Lusaka at 15:30hrs providing connections to and from the Copperbelt.
